Fortem Technologies Welcomes Executive Orders Targeting Domestic Drone Threats

*CEO Jon Gruen urges Congress to follow White House’s lead by approving legislation expanding counter-UAS authority*

LINDON, UT - June 09, 2025 --

In response to executive orders issued by the White House to strengthen domestic airspace security and counter unmanned aerial threats, Fortem Technologies Chairman and CEO Jon Gruen released the following statement:

“The two Executive Orders issued on June 6 — one focused on securing domestic airspace from malicious drone activity, and the other on advancing U.S. leadership in drone and air mobility technologies — are an important and welcome step toward modernizing our national air defense posture. By expanding flight-restricted zones, accelerating FAA rulemaking, and improving coordination and training across agencies, the administration is strengthening our ability to protect the homeland from unmanned aerial threats.

“The scale and urgency of these threats were underscored last week when dozens of Ukrainian drones were smuggled deep inside Russia and then activated near strategic airbases, destroying aircraft and exposing critical vulnerabilities in Russian defenses. It was a triumph for Ukraine. But for the United States and our allies, it’s a warning.

“Drones have democratized precision airstrikes. Our adversaries no longer need missiles to inflict strategic damage — and yet today, U.S. cities, airports, stadiums, and critical infrastructure remain largely undefended.

“America must rapidly take steps to harden the homeland against this emerging class of aerial threats. That means building out a layered air defense system that starts at ground level — where most small drones fly — and ensuring that state and local agencies have the authority and tools to act. That’s why Fortem Technologies strongly supports the bipartisan efforts in Congress to extend counter-UAS (unmanned aerial systems) authorities beyond a small number of federal entities.

“We also welcome the administration’s call to expand grant programs that help local governments acquire detection and mitigation tools — a critical enabler for distributed, real-time response.

“Likewise, we strongly support the creation of a National Counter-UAS Training Center and the new interagency task force for securing major public events. These initiatives will help standardize response protocols, build readiness, and ensure the U.S. is prepared to defend against 21st-century aerial threats at scale.

“Fortem Technologies’ U.S.-made counter-drone systems are already protecting civilian and military populations in Ukraine and around the world. We applaud the administration’s leadership and look forward to working with Congress and federal partners to fully operationalize these policies and keep U.S. skies safe.”
