Fortem Appoints Tech Veteran Marty Smuin as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Development
New Hire Joins Leadership Team to Help Set Company's Vision and Global Growth Trajectory

Fortem Technologies, the leading provider of realtime AI-enabled airspace security and safety solutions for drones, announced today that it has appointed Marty Smuin as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Development. Smuin has nearly three decades of executive leadership in high impact technology enterprises. As a key addition to the executive team at Fortem Technologies, Smuin will examine and develop domestic and global market opportunities for the company with a focus on balancing growth and execution. Smuin will report to Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Bean. “We are incredibly fortunate to have Marty join the Fortem leadership team,” said Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Bean. “He has an outstanding pedigree for managing complex, high-growth companies while maintaining the vision and discipline necessary to execute on critical deliverables for customers and partners. He is immensely well respected in a number of industries from wireless elecoms to supercomputing, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
Prior to joining Fortem Technologies, Smuin served as CEO of Adaptive Computing, the world leader in dynamically optimizing large-scale computing environments. Adaptive was recently acquired by a private firm. Prior to joining Adaptive Computing, Marty served as President of Aircom International, Inc. Headquartered in the UK, Aircom is a leading independent mobile network planning and optimization company, providing software and services to more than half of the world’s wireless carriers.
Before Aircom, Smuin served as GM and VP of Sales at Bytemobile, Inc. There he was a key member of the senior management team, leading strategy and execution across critical business initiatives.
Prior to joining Bytemobile, Smuin held the position of VP of Sales and Business Development for Openwave Systems, and before that was COO of ACCESS Global. Prior to being promoted to COO, Marty served as VP of Sales and Marketing at ACCESS Systems. Before joining Tokyo based ACCESS Systems, Marty was Executive VP of Business Development and sales at i-drive, one of the fastest growing peer-to-peer sites in Internet history, where he led the development of the company’s mobile strategy and international expansion. Prior to i-drive, Marty spent several years at USA, Inc. (now known as IACI) serving as VP of Strategic Alliances for USA Interactive and Director of Business and Corporate Development at HSN, Inc., a subsidiary of USA Networks. Earlier in his career, he gained extensive international business experience as Manager of New Markets at Comcast/QVC, Inc. Marty is a graduate of University of Oklahoma. He has had numerous Board seats, with a focus on advising startups.
