Before founding Fortem Technologies in April 2016 with his partner Adam Robertson, Tim was a VP of Engineering and later Chief Revenue Officer at a company that excelled at stopping criminal and terrorist behavior through signal intelligence. Prior to 2001, Tim served as VP/General Manager at NextHop, a proprietary technology licensing company from academia that expedited the communications industry transition from circuit to secure internet communications.

Before NextHop, Tim served as Executive VP of Engineering and CTO at Shomiti Systems, where he spearheaded the development of award-winning products for the largest enterprises in the world to curtail cyber threats. Tim began his career as an engineer at Aspect Telecommunications, where he was responsible for all software development for their flagship telecommunication products, before becoming the Director of Software and generating over $500M in annual revenue for the product line.

Tim earned his B.S. in Design Engineering, a combination of mechanical engineering and computer science, from BYU. A frequent speaker at international counter terror and airspace security events, Tim has been widely quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, CNN and The Atlantic. Born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio, Tim is married with kids and remains a passionate Cleveland sports fan, where he’s been trying to convert his family to root for his hometown teams for more years than he’s willing to admit.

Jon Gruen

Chief Executive Officer

A native of Oakland, California, Captain Jon D. Gruen graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in Physics (Oceanography). Captain Gruen’s active duty assignments include SEAL TEAM ONE, NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE UNIT TWO, and SEAL TEAM THREE where he served in increasing SEAL Platoon and Task Unit leadership roles in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In March 2007, he transitioned to the Navy Reserve, where he served as the Executive Officer of both SEAL TEAM SEVENTEEN SEAL Unit and Undersea Mobility Unit. He then completed back-to-back Commanding Officer tours of Naval Reserve Unmanned Air Systems Unit, before being promoted and taking command of NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE GROUP ELEVEN Headquarters Unit.

His Reserve Mobilizations include Operations Officer (J3) at Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula, as Special Operations Forces Liaison Element (SOFLE) to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Amphibious Ready Group-3, and as Naval Special Warfare Branch Head on the Navy Staff (OPNAV N951).

In his civilian career, Captain Gruen started as a Business Development Principal at Lockheed Martin where he won over $10B in program value, to include the Dry Combat Submersible and the Prime Contractor role for USSOCOM PEO-SOFSA.

Captain Gruen holds the 1135 Naval Special Warfare designator, and his personal awards include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and multiple unit and service awards. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California - Berkeley.

Adam Robertson

Adam Robertson

Chief Technology Officer

Adam began developing miniature radar technology in graduate school over 24 years ago. At Intel, Hewlett Packard, Agilent, and Honeywell he gained experience with semi-conductors, microwave electronics, aerospace instrumentation, and project/program management. Adam was an instrumental leader in growing a small business from a handful of people to over 100 employees. Developing drone based miniature radar for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, and leading the business development team, Adam was key in securing more than $100M in contracts in the company’s first few years.

Most recently, Adam co-founded Fortem Technologies in 2016, raising investor capital to produce the world’s most advanced miniature radar for drone detection, a highly autonomous flying drone hunter system. Adam guides the corporate technology roadmap, oversees regulatory compliance, and works closely with defense customers to solve their toughest problems. Adam served as a Representative at Utah’s House of Representatives from 2018 to 2023.

Greer Carper

Senior Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy

Greer is the SVP of Corporate Development a Strategy at Fortem Technologies and was previously Fortem’s Chief Financial Officer. He’s a seasoned technologist with 15 years’ experience in M&A, venture capital, investment planning, strategic partnerships, and product management. Prior to Fortem Greer was an Investing Principal at Boeing’s corporate venture capital fund where he led investments in the areas of UAS and autonomy for both commercial and military markets as well as the standup of SkyGrid, a joint venture between Boeing & SparkCognition focusing on next-gen air traffic management for drones. Greer is captivated by the applications of deep technology to aerospace & defense and believes autonomous systems will positively impact humanity. Greer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with concentrations in accounting and management of information systems (MIS) from Creighton University. He currently lives in Austin Texas, and enjoys videos games, shooting sports, and cold war history.

Michael Buscher

Executive Director, Enterprise Operations

Michael Buscher is the Executive Director of Defense & Intelligence Solutions for Fortem Technologies, bringing over 30 years of government service as an officer in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He has held numerous leadership positions within the U.S. Special Operations Command and served nearly ten years as a Senior Operations Officer in the CIA.

Mr. Buscher’s private sector career includes CGO of BigBear.ai, CEO at Vanguard Defense Industries, VP at Peraton, and the National Intelligence Center at Huntington Ingalls Industries. Mr. Buscher holds an MS in International Relations from Liberty University, a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington, and is completing his Ph.D.in National Security, Public Policy.

Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Business Development

Magnus is the VP Worldwide Sales and Services at Fortem Technologies. He has global executive industry leadership experience with more than 20 years of strategy, sales, and business development in more than 140 countries across several related technology sectors, including aerospace, telecommunication and automotive for commercial and government markets.

He is the author of several books and articles on satellite communication, national security, and computer science. He holds several patents. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Bachelor’s degree in Communications Science from the University of Gothenburg. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and outdoor activities.

Senior Vice President, Engineering and Product Management

Spencer is the VP of Engineering and Product, leading engineering, product management, operations and manufacturing. Spencer has been with Fortem since the companies first year, bringing with him 15 years of experience leading global cross functional teams, managing large technical projects, and serving as the COO of another startup in the Financial Tech industry.

He is passionate about learning, solving problems and building great relationships..especially with customers. Spencer holds Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) and Business (MBA) from Brigham Young University. He currently lives in Pleasant Grove with his wife and four children. He loves the outdoors, hiking, camping, riding motorcycles, and is a lead singer and guitarist for a local rock band (with his son as the drummer).

Warren is a senior marketing executive with over 30 years of marketing and corporate communications experience. His achievements include extensive global branding and marketing success that ranges from initial start-up ventures through Fortune 500 companies. Prior to his current position at Fortem Technologies, Warren held executive marketing positions at such companies as Boeing, SAIC, iDirect Technologies, Iridium Satellite and Deltek.

Through the implementation of innovative integrated marketing strategies focused on business results, Warren has helped take companies to that next level of success and market recognition. At iDirect Technologies he was responsible for leading the marketing strategy that aided in record brand awareness and business impact that culminated in a successful willing acquisition by Singapore Technologies.

At Boeing he was instrumental in building successful integrated marketing campaigns and branding initiatives on a global basis that helped lead to several multi-billion dollar campaign wins. At Deltek he orchestrated unprecedented financial media exposure to aid in a successful IPO that raised over $190 million.

Warren began his career in the advertising industry in Los Angeles working as a Creative Director and Account Manager on several high profile consumer brands. An avid cyclist and former racer he enjoys being on the board of advisors for the annual Armed Forces Cycling Classic pro-am race series in Arlington, Virginia. A lover of travel, he greatly enjoys exploring new places with his wife and two boys.
